Building a Global Game Plan -- 2008 Challenge Theme
The “winds of change are blowing” and with them comes FIRST LEGO League’s 2008 Climate Connections Challenge! Join us as we explore why many experts believe the earth’s climate is changing and how these changes impact you and our planet. The causes, contributions, and consequences are all interconnected and the experts are telling us to “think globally – act locally.” People, resources, and local actions need to be united to establish a global game plan. Do FIRST LEGO League teams have what it takes to make these global Climate Connections?
See the HomeWorkAssignments page for expectations on homework for both research and robotics. Research and programs can be uploaded to the pbwiki or brought to meetings.
The robot can be taken home by team members to work on programming in between meetings. This would be a good thing to do - especially while the goal is to just go through all the tutorials. It might be more difficult to use the robot at home once the kids get to programming missions. So jump right on this!
Upcoming meeting dates will be posted on the MeetingGoals page. Please refer to it in case of changes!

FINAL SCRIPT
Tasks to be done for 2008 Season
Overall planning - How can you move around the board to accomplish all the missions? What things use the same sort of attachment or go the same place? What missions might use the same logic?
Once the overall mission plan is done - actually make the programming work
Make sure there is always one robot that the programmers can use. Design and build attachments or new model robot to attempt missions.
Research 1) what does each of the missions mean 2) general information on climate change 3) project specific information
Brainstorm ideas of local problems caused by climate change. Decide when final project will be decided.
Find people for the kids to talk to - university researchers, energy companies, etc. Maybe another museum trip?
Maybe this could be an opening activity each week or maybe a monthly pizza party / team building event or maybe both?
Research ways of doing t-shirts - have them printed this year? Kids design, then either everyone can iron on themselves or have them done professionally. FLL site somewhere has info on getting t-shirts printed - order over internet, I think.
Look at options - order, make them, etc. Decide and make it happen.
Organize snack schedule, helper schedule, contact people if any change to schedule needed, send reminder email, track who will / will not be at meetings.
Gather all required information. Get forms signed. Register for tournament (registration is open on October 1st.)
